These are my (Michele’s) furry babies. Maya –a yellow lab, Maizy – a black lab/hound mix and Cooper – a cattle dog/pointer mix are three of the four dogs at FourLegged Creative. Maya was my first baby (before having two children) and my husband’s birthday present. She is the only pure breed at 4LC and has endured the addition of two dogs and two kids! Maya is very independent (and vocal – we say “opinionated”) and one of the few retrievers who doesn’t really care to do much retrieving. So our vet recommended another dog to keep our lazy labby girl more active (yeah that’s her laying down in the picture above). Our son was just 1 1/2 years old at the time and I wasn’t sure I really wanted to deal with the puppy stage and toddler stage at the same time. So we contacted the Georgia Lab Rescue and rescued Maizy. During our rescue search, I saw the incredible dedication of the rescue group volunteers and an unbelievable number of dogs in need of a good home. I was so impressed that the rescue group really wanted to match the right dog with the right owner and not just “dump a dog”. Hearing the unfortunate circumstances that most of these dogs encounter was unbearable. Maizy’s breeder dumped her and two of her sisters off in the woods. We are not sure how long they survived on their own until a neighbor found them and took them to a shelter – a “kill shelter” that fortunately called Georgia Lab Rescue. Maizy has a tear on one of her ears that we think occurred while she was wondering in the “wild”. She is an extremely sweet dog and is the inspiration behind the FourLegged Creative logo (shhhh don’t tell the other dogs). We rescued Cooper a couple years later (much to the surprise of our family) and I knew that some day I wanted to do more to help. And that’s what eventually lead to creating FourLegged Creative with my friend and business partner, Kelly Morgan.
